This dried fruit compote recipe is the perfect for Christmas dinner.
A compote is a dish that is made with fresh or dried fruit (like in this case). It is cooked very slowly, it is served chilled and is a great substitute for store juice and soda.
This recipe is typically served during and after Christmas dinners, full of plums, and apples help with stomach aches that might happen when there is too much to eat.
It's light and has no added sugars.
With this recipe you can add and subtract different fruits depending on your preference.
The ratio of water to dried fruit is 3:1 cup.
All together for this recipe you will need about 8 oz of dried fruit (250g)
1 Cinnamon stick
1 Star Anise
1 tbsp of powder cloves
1 tbsp Ginger powder
to your taste Agave syrup
1 orange and 1 lemon zest
Wash the dried fruit, put it in a very large pot or bowl, pour water over it and soak them overnight.
Put the water and fruits in a sauce pot and start cooking it on a medium heat. Add the cinnamon stick, star anise and cloves. Let it cook for about 20 min, until the fruits are soft but do not fall apart.
Just before the end of cooking about 5 min till end add the lemon and orange zest, the agave syrup, and ginger powder.
Cool it down and serve it cold.
Add sweeter to your taste- you can use sugar, agave syrup or honey.
To cool it down quickly I usually cover it and put it outside, on the balcony or garage door.
